Blink 182 are back after 8 years on hiatus to release their new album titled “Neighbourhoods”. I was stoked to hear that they were in the process of recording a new album last year, and have always been a huge Blink 182 fan, so of course I bought it on the day it came out in stores. Initially I was hugely impressed by it, (almost) all the songs are catchy (as they are famous for writing) and overall it has a really good feel to it. The cover art is awesome, I spent a great deal of time looking at it, trying find all the names hidden in the buildings. Click on “Read More” for the rest.
Although every album has its downsides (maybe I’m just to picky), the riff in “Snake Chamber” sounds identical to the one in “The Machine”, the original version of the Angels & Airwaves song “Start The Machine”. The opening lick in “Natives” sounds identical to the opening lick in “Young London” by Angels & Airwaves, just in a different pitch. Although its understandable that there would be some similarities between the two bands, (as Tom Delonge is the frontman of both) I wish he would have dug a little deeper to find new riffs and new licks for this new record. Another similarity is the presence of the theme Love. Example, ‘Love Is Dangerous”. Don’t get me wrong, its a great song, but hasn’t he touched on that subject enough with the double album release from Angels & Airwaves? I think the song would have fit in better if he re-worked it and included it in the LOVE Part II album instead. Nonetheless, I am very impressed by this album, and its definitely one of Blink 182’s best releases to date, if not the best. Worth checking out.
